Underwater Explorer is right where you want to be in Southern Mozambique.
We offer a fully equipped PADI 5 Star Dive Centre, right on the beach, walking distance from the launch site and protected swimming area. Wake up in the morning to a view of the sunrise over the sea, and let the day unfold with diving, surfing, kite boarding, foiling or a day at the beach. You don’t have to go anywhere else, at Underwater Explorer you can see what activities the ocean will allow each day, it’s all on your doorstep.

Underwater Explorer offers all PADI dive courses from Try Diving to Professional Courses, approaching all dives with safety and fun in mind, incorporating all Padi scuba diving standards.

At Underwater Explorers in Mozambique, Ponta do Ouro, there is a little place hidden in the bottom corner of the camp that we lovingly call Charlie’s Bar. Charlie’s Bar is a small beach bar, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the beach. Sit back, relax, and let your hair down and enjoy the coldest 2MG beers in town. Show casing the stunning ocean view and a crystal-clear plunge pool, our secluded spot is the place to be when the sun is too hot or at sunset to meet new friends and become part of the legend that is Charlie’s Bar.
Diving
Ocean Safari – 2 hours
This is the perfect fun family excursion, come experience Ponta do Ouro from the sea’s perspective. Swim, snorkel and explore the coastline and see what the ocean and reefs are all about? Are you a diver, but your friends are family aren’t, and you are dying to show them what you see? This is the perfect outing for families to share.
Boat Rides - 45 mins
This boat cruise is a 45 minute boat journey, for 6 or more passengers. See Ponta do Ouro from a different angle, the beautiful sand dunes and the protected marine forest coastline, cruise around the point and see where South Africa meets Mozambique, and head in the direction of Ponta Malengane. You may see turtles, humpback whales from July to November, and seek marine sea and bird life.
Diving
The diving here in Mozambique is absolutely phenomenal and a divers paradise. The warm waters (the water temperature ranges from 23C in winter to 29C in summer) of the Indian Ocean are teeming with life. We have over 1200 species of fish as well as manta rays, whale sharks, dolphins, turtles, migrating whales. The list is endless, the colours of the pristine reefs, beyond description and we even have uncharted reefs if you want to go exploring.
From friendly fish like Nuisance the Potato Bass, to the giants of the sea like Humpback Whales, Whale Sharks and Hammerheads, Ponta Do Ouro diving has it all. This rich marine biodiversity nestled in Maputo National Marine Reserve showcases spectacular and diverse healthy reefs, formed from fossilisation of coastal sand dunes, not by reef-building corals as one might suspect. This stretch of the Mozambican coastline is a Marine Protected Area which ensures the pristine health and protection of our Coral Reef Structures and Marine Ecosystems.

We have shallow reefs for Open Water students to deep diving with Sharks for the advanced divers, Underwater Explorer can offer you a little of everything. From dolphins, varieties of rays to whales and whale sharks, bass to hammerheads and Zambezi sharks, Mozambique offers spectacular diving with many species and vast variety of sea life.
Join us for an underwater adventure, from shallow reefs for Open water students, to deeper shark dives for the more advanced diver… a little something for everyone. The water temperature ranges from 21 ºC, with recorded visibility of 25+ meters in winter, May to August. In summer, 29ºC with 15 to 20 meters visibility which illustrates excellent diving all year
Each dive site has its own special offerings from frog fish, leafy scorpion fish, nudibranchs and macro life to the bigger pelagic’s and turtles, dolphins, and sharks. Every dive you can expect something different, which makes every dive extra special.
At Underwater Explorer, we combine adventure with education, offering world-class shark diving experiences while promoting conservation. Our expert instructors prioritise safety and share valuable insights into shark behaviour, fostering a deeper appreciation for these apex predators and their vital role in maintaining our marine ecosystems. Ponta do Ouro is rated as one of the top shark diving sites in the world, Pinnacles Reef is renowned for incredible shark encounters. Over the years, we’ve observed some of the ocean’s most breathtaking predators up close. The special and frequent sightings include Bull (Zambezi) sharks, Hammerheads, Silvertips, Duskies, Blacktips, Leopard sharks, and even Tiger sharks—just a few of the 19 species recorded in the area. Eagle rays, Devil rays, and Manta Rays can also make an appearance, adding even more wonder to the experience.

All divers must present proof of certification prior to first dive and fill out a standard diving indemnity form. With Oxygen and DAN Kit onboard our fleet of dive boats, we can accommodate large groups, and private launches for personal attention with our expert guides.

Accommodation
As the first dive camp in Ponta do Ouro, we offer cozy and relaxed accommodation with a stunning ocean backdrop. Our rustic camp operates in beautiful Ponta do Oura, Mozambique. At Underwater Explorer, we give beach life, breath, fun and relaxation…
We offer luxury Seaview Ensuites, Beach Casitas, furnished Tents and Self-Camping facilities. Enjoy waking up to a glorious sunrise over the sea, a step away from the beach.
Seaview Ensuites
Relax and unwind in your Seaview Ensuite, a step away from the beach:
The Seaview En-Suite units are furnished with 1 double bed and 1 or 2 single beds. Each has an ensuite bathroom with a toilet, wash basin & large shower. These units include free-standing fans, fridges and coffee stations and USB charging ports. Each Chalet offers its own private balcony overlooking the sea. Towels, linen and mosquito nets are provided. Bring your own swimming towels and mosquito repellent.
The Seaview Ensuite Family unit has 2 bedrooms: Room 1 with a double bed and 2 single beds, Room 2 has two single beds. It hosts a small cook station and has a private fridge/freezer, a coffee station and USB charging ports and a dining area. It also boasts a large balcony overlooking the sea. Towels, linen and mosquito nets and free-standing fans are provided. Bring your own swimming towels and mosquito repellent.
Beach Casitas
Our Beach Casitas offer cosy room setups to sleep 2 to 4 people. Communal tiled, bathrooms with showers and a communal kitchen complete your rustic stay at Underwater Explorer. Linen and mosquito nets are provided, but please bring your own towels. Positioned just a few steps away from the beach. Perfect for young travelers or backpackers.
Furnished Tents
We also offer comfortable furnished tented accommodation, some are sea facing with shade clothe patios, and some are positioned under the giant trees, giving shade and coolness on those warm summer days. A vibey chill area with communal kitchen, braai area and a separate boma area offer many options for all your social needs. Dual communal bathrooms available. Perfect for young travelers or backpackers.
Self Camping
Our campgrounds are nestled under large shady trees in a secluded area, close to the beach. There is electricity and lighting to each campsite. The are dual communal bathrooms available and access to our three communal kitchens.
Fridges, Freezers, Gas cookers, Cutlery & Crockery and Cleaning Elves are at hand to make your cooking experiences effortless. Tea and Coffee freely available. Drinking water is filtered and supplied in each communal kitchen. Free, unlimited Wi-Fi available in the main lounge area.
Kitchen Areas:
We have 3 self catering kitchens fully stocked with gas cook tops, Microwaves, pans pots and cooking utensils, including magic cleaning elves.
Tea and Coffee stations are on offer in each kitchen.
Free filtered drinking water is available to fill up your bottles in each kitchen
Braai Areas:
There is one large braai pit area and one large boma area.
We also offer 3 alternate braai areas
Communal Bathrooms:
5 Communal Bathrooms with hot running water in accessible in each common area, including the dive centre.
Booking Terms and Conditions
Please Note:
Accommodation:
- This quote/invoice is valid for 48 hours.
- All reservations require 50% deposit within 48 hours to secure booking of which 25% of the total deposit is non-refundable.
- Reservations less than 30 days of arrival require payment in full.
- All accommodation bookings must be paid in full 30 days prior to arrival.
- Postponements are only valid for 1 year of date of postponing and seasonal rates do apply for any and all bookings.
Activities:
- All activity reservations require 50% deposit within 2 days to secure the booking of which 25% of the deposit is non-refundable.
- All activity bookings must be paid in full on finalizing booking on arrival.
- Credits will only be passed for activities cancelled by Underwater Explorers or due to valid medical reason.
- Full refunds will be given for activities not possible due to bad weather if it is not safe to launch and cannot be postponed. Rain/clouds/cold weather is not classified as bad weather.
- No refund for cancellation/postponement of activity, credit vouchers will be issued for activity and are not exchangeable for cash nor transferable.
- No credits/refunds will be issued for activities on special priced packages/bulk deals not used within the start and end dates of the special or period the offer was booked for.
Cancellation:
- All cancellations must be done in writing.
- Non-payment of deposit for reservations within 48 hours will be cancelled without notice.
- Non-payment of balance due for reservations, by due date 30 days prior to arrival, will be cancelled without notice.
- Cancellations made within 7 and 14 days before arrival, a cancellation fee of 100% will be charged.
- Cancellations made within 21 days before arrival, a cancellation fee of 50% will be charged.
- Cancellations made within 30 and 90 days before arrival, a cancellation fee of 25% will be charged.
- No refund/credit for non-arrival or early departures.
