Pakamisa Private Game Reserve is situated in northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, on the outskirts of the town of Pongola. 

The town lies to the south of Swaziland and is the perfect link between the Kruger National Park and Durban.

Pakamisa is predator & malaria free, creating a safe environment and children are always welcome.


The Lodge

 

Pakamisa is a private, exclusive reserve open to residential guests only. Majestically perched on the high plateau of the Pakamisa Mountain, the lodge has breath-taking views of the evergreen valleys and plains of the Pongola River to the east and the rolling hills of natural bush of the Reserve in the west.

Limited to a maximum of 16 guests, the lodge offers a unique Spanish architecture, blended with the finest African ambience.

The eight meter high ceilings, legendary of tropical hotels in bygone days, create a pleasant, cool atmosphere. The impressive Main House, with its eclectic mix of African and European art and antiques, offers an ideal place for quiet relaxation or pre-dinner socializing; alternatively slip into the intimate atmosphere of the Hunter’s Bar for a cocktail.

The extensive library contains many treasures to delight the most discerning bibliophile in a variety of languages.

The Pool

 

Relax around the large pool, take in the spectacular views, enjoy light snacks and exotic drinks after a refreshing swim around the pool.

8 Luxury Safari Suites

A room with more than a view awaits you! Wake up to the most spectacular views of Pakamisa Private Game Reserve.The substantial accommodation consists of a bedroom, deluxe bathroom, a garderobe and cosy sunken lounge leading onto a spacious veranda.

Conveniently located away from the main facilities, in landscaped indigenous gardens, the accommodation offers the highest standards of comfort and seclusion. The deluxe suites are individually styled and themed after an animal depicted in valuable paintings and local artefacts.

The suites are deliberately techno-free with no telephone or television. Internet access is available at the reception area of the Main House – for those who simply cannot let go of the outside world. Excellent cell phone reception is available in most areas of the Pakamisa Lodge.

The elegant El Prado restaurant with its reputation for pleasing the most fastidious gourmet strives for perfection in hospitality, entertainment and fine dining: From a sumptuous breakfast up to a light lunch, Afternoon tea and sundowners, Romantic alfresco dining on the covered veranda or a Gala Diner with concert entertainment.

All in a stylish but comfortable atmosphere. The cuisine, as well as the wines and liquors from our cellar, are of the highest international standards. Or a perfect day can be rounded off around a crackling campfire under the stars enjoying the natural nocturne of the African night.

PAKAMISA GAME RESERVE 

The private Pakamisa Game Reserve, in which the Pakamisa Private Game Reserve is located, comprises a pristine wilderness area of some 2,500 hectares. Access to the reserve is restricted, enabling guests at Pakamisa Private Game Reserve to enjoy the exclusive experience of natural African bushveld with its unparalleled abundance of wildlife and exotic vegetation. Guests can expect to see blue wildebeest, giraffe, zebra, waterbuck, red hartebeest, warthog, bushpig, kudu, nyala, impala, bushbuck, common reedbuck, mountain reedbuck, grey and red duiker, steenbuck, klipspringer, baboon as well as many smaller mammals, predators and reptiles. The bird life, too, is prolific and varied.

GAME DRIVE

Accompanied by an experienced game ranger, guests may traverse the entire reserve in an open safari vehicle. Your guide will explain the often-fascinating life cycles of everything from insects, plants and trees to the behaviour patterns of the mammals and birds, giving you a chance to experience at first hand the magic of the African wild.

HORSE RIDING

At Pakamisa we are specialising in pleasure riding holidays for families, groups and individuals. Each of our trial rides provides incredible game viewing on horseback while strolling through the plains and challenging climb ups of the rolling hills of the vast Pakamisa reserve. You may ride into a herd of impala or wildebeest and numerous warthogs will let you get close to them before they start trotting off.

One of our professional guides will guide you through Pakamisa's unspoilt wilderness areas, introduce you to the South African mammals, fauna & flora and share with you the excitement of a Horseback safari. Combining the magnificent scenery with the thrill of riding amongst teeming herds of game is something no horse lover coming to South Africa should miss.
