The Perfect Accommodation to explore the sights of Mpumalanga

The Main Lodge at Muluwa

Guests receive a warm African welcome as they step into the cool, open-air reception area of the expansive Main Lodge.
The sounds and smells of the bush are carried in on the breeze, wafting gently through full-length glass sliding doors into a spacious thatched restaurant. An enormous wooden deck steps down into a large Infinity Pool which provides one-of-a-kind views of the Lowveld’s rolling hills and valleys.

Furnished with modern ethnic decor, our open-air lounge provides the perfect spot to complement the scenery with a sunrise coffee or sundowner cocktail… Or simply a relaxing space to bask in the stillness of the mild winter sun or provide the perfect perch from which to observe the spectacle of the mighty summer thunderstorms.

LUXURY SAFARI TENTS

Our Luxury Safari Tents blend gently into the natural setting on the hillside, creating a peaceful and romantic atmosphere.

Pitched atop a 45m2 wooden deck, our twelve permanent safari-style tents offer breathtaking views over the bushveld. Roll up the side panels of your tents, and fall asleep to an African breeze that carries with it, the calming sounds and smells of nature.

All of the air-conditioned tents feature King-sized beds (or 2 ¾ beds on request), an en-suite bathroom with a shower, a mini-bar (stocked on request) with tea and coffee making facilities.

A maximum of two adults can share a luxury tent.

Regrettably, no children under 12 are permitted in the tented accommodation.

Families with smaller children can be accommodated in our Superior Rooms and Luxury Suites.

SUPERIOR ROOMS

Tucked elegantly into the trees and natural environment of Muluwa, the eight Superior Rooms are both private and generous in size, with private decks that offer the perfect place to greet the sunrise each morning.

Our eight 40m2 Superior Rooms accommodate a King-sized bed (or 2 ¾ beds on request). The spacious en-suite bathroom provides both shower and bathtub facilities. An open plan lounge spills out onto the private wooden deck. For those unable to pull themselves away from Africa’s beauty, outdoor showers are a feature of all Superior Rooms. Air-conditioning and a mini-bar (stocked on request) with tea and coffee making facilities complete the in-room facilities.

Superior Rooms accommodate a maximum of 2 adults and two children under the age of 12.

(Children are accommodated on sleeper couches which are on request and subject to availability).

 LUXURY SUITES

Our most beautiful accommodation offering at Muluwa Lodge is our two Luxury Suites, each with their own private plunge pool, providing an extra splash of luxury.

Elevated on the hillside, both of the 45m2 fully air-conditioned Luxury Suites offer a King-sized bed and an elegant en-suite bathroom with both a shower and freestanding bathtub. An open plan lounge offers a mini-bar (stocked on request) and opens onto a private wooden deck boasting an additional open-air shower and a private plunge pool.

Luxury Suites accommodate a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children under 12.

Twin bedding is optional. (Children are accommodated on sleeper couches which are on request and subject to availability)

THE DINING EXPERIENCE AT MULUWA

Muluwa Lodge boasts a delightful restaurant, surrounded by breathtaking views to appreciate as you enjoy our delicious meals. Our passionate chefs prepare international food with love and with an upmarket African twist.

Your rate includes breakfast and dinner, however light lunches or picnics can be arranged if you wish to relax at Muluwa during the day and enjoy the natural surroundings.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially if you are taking to the road to explore the sights. Guests can enjoy a continental breakfast offering a wide selection of fruits, grains, and pastries,  as well as a traditional hot South African breakfast.

For super-early risers heading out for a day trip to the Kruger Park, or to do sightseeing in Mpumalanga and surrounds, “breakfasts to go” are provided.

THE BOMA EXPERIENCE

Experience a truly magical South African tradition by joining us for a “Boma” dining experience, beneath the stars and kissed by the moonlight.

Our chef’s menu will boast a variety of local dishes which are prepared before your eyes on open flame grills, beneath the canopy of an age-old Acacia tree. The ambiance is that of a traditional African village.

A relaxed atmosphere where guests can swap stories of their day before dinner and can enjoy a typically South African “braai.”  Afterward, visitors can kick back in front of the bonfire for a nightcap while absorbing the sounds of the African bush.

The boma dinners are weather-permitting and only on certain nights of the week, which may vary. Please enquire with reservations to avoid disappointment.

Activities

Hiking

If you’re visiting Mpumalanga, chances are that you’re here to indulge in the great African outdoors.  Why not notch that experience up a level with a walk along one of the many hiking trails in the area. From leisurely half day strolls to technical multi-day treks, there is a trail to suit everyone.

For those looking for only a taste of the outdoor experience, the estate upon which Muluwa Lodge is situated has a crisscrossing network of dirt trails, providing short walks which take guests through the scenic Lowveld landscape, allowing them to mingle with the resident on-site wildlife.

Mountain Biking

Mpumalanga is both one of the best and most beautiful mountain-biking spots in South Africa.  A wealth of trails provides tracks of varying difficulty, giving both novice and expert riders something to perfectly suit their riding ability.

Whatever your preference, the treasure trove of bike trails available in the area allows avid riders to enjoy the bushveld scenery from the saddle.

Muluwa Lodge offers some gentle on-site biking opportunities thanks to a network of dirt tracks on the property.  Perfect for an early morning pick-me-up before breakfast.

The Hide

On the banks of the Estate’s dam, not far from the main building at Muluwa Lodge, is the MAC Hide. The Hide gives our guests a secluded hideout from which they can observe the resident wildlife congregating at the watering hole. The luckiest visitors get to see the awkward split-like stance taken by the giraffe as its head has to travel almost 6 metres down to enjoy a drink.

Water attracts not only big game, but throngs of bird-life too. The Hide is a bird-watcher’s paradise as the area’s feathered visitors drink, bathe and fish at the Dam.

Sundowners

What better way to end off a day of game viewing or visiting Mpumalanga’s many sights than from our sunset hill, which has an unbeatable view over the Lowveld.

Guests are transferred to the Viewpoint in an open safari vehicle where they can enjoy a Sundowner beverage and snacks (optional).

Muluwa can assist with setting up a surprise, or prepare for a special occasion upon request.
