Each campsite features its own water supply, adjustable grid braai area, and a lush private grass patch in most cases, providing a peaceful retreat.
Although there are no electricity points, there's ample space for solar panels and equipment, and the camp is illuminated with solar lights at night.
Additionally, we offer refrigerator and freezing facilities, as well as charging points for phones, cameras, and laptops. Conveniently located just 58km from the Phalaborwa Kruger gate and 48km from the Orpen Kruger gate, our campsite allows for easy access to the surrounding area without the hassle of gate times.
With a short 1.5km drive on a dirt road to the campsite, you're free to come and go as you please, ensuring a truly unrestricted bush experience. Hoedspruit, known as the "Safari capital of South Africa," offers an abundance of self-drive activities to explore, so you'll never feel like you're missing out.
Our unique self-check-in system allows you to arrive at your own pace, without feeling rushed, and ensures that no camper will ever be stranded alongside the road, regardless of the time of day or night.

Maru Djembe is the ultimate camping destination for wildlife enthusiasts, offering an immersive experience amidst the sights and sounds of nature.
Our campsite is home to a diverse array of game and bird species, including regular visits from blue wildebeest, buffalo, leopard, giraffes, sable, and many more, as the property is fenced but the campsites are not. Each campsite is a tranquil retreat, featuring its own water supply, adjustable grid braai area, and a lush private grass patch in most cases.
While there are no electricity points, there's ample space for solar panels and equipment, and the camp is illuminated with solar lights at night.
Guests can unwind in our dam-style swimming pool, a perfect respite from the warm Hoedspruit days. Our 5km walking trail is ideal for families and nature lovers, welcoming children of all ages to explore the surrounding beauty.
We're also pet-friendly, inviting your furry companions to join in on the adventure and enjoy the bush walks and vibrant surroundings.
Our outdoor communal kitchen is a recent addition, equipped with chest freezers, fridges, comfortable picnic benches, a washbasin, ample cupboard space, and a 3-burner gas cooker, providing a touch of home in the wilderness. Our stylish, family-friendly ablutions offer warm showers heated by gas geysers, creating a safe and relaxing environment after a day of exploring.

We're conveniently located just 58km from Phalaborwa Kruger gate and 48km from Orpen Kruger gate. With no gate times and a short 1.5km drive on a dirt road to the campsite, you're free to come and go as you please. To get here, take the Phalaborwa or Orpen gate and follow the signs to Maru Djembe.

Things to know
At Maru Djembe, you can enjoy the convenience of drinking water directly from the taps, and our self-check-in system allows you to arrive at your own pace, with detailed instructions provided on the information wall in camp and also emailed to you in advance.
Rest assured that our camp is a safe haven with no history of criminal activities, however, it's essential to exercise caution as animals do roam freely within the camp, so please refrain from approaching them.
In case of any emergencies, the necessary contact numbers are displayed on the information wall.
Given the bushveld's propensity for windy conditions, we recommend bringing extra straps and ground pegs to secure your campsite.
Don't forget to pack essentials like a hat, torch, hammock, bug spray, and sunscreen to ensure a comfortable stay.
While there are no electricity points in camp, we provide freezing and refrigerator facilities to keep your food and drinks fresh.
Malaria Info
Hoedspruit is classified as a low-risk area for malaria, but it's still crucial to take precautions to minimize the risk of infection. To ensure a safe and enjoyable stay, we recommend using peaceful sleep spray at night. Although the risk of malaria is present throughout the year, it tends to be higher from September to May, with the lowest risk during the winter months from May to August. If you suspect you may have contracted malaria, it's essential to consult a doctor as soon as possible. Additionally, self-test malaria kits are available for purchase at local pharmacies in Hoedspruit, providing a convenient option for those who may need to test themselves.
