Emil & Marena Bothma welcome you to Makgoro Lodge, in the heart of Stellaland.
We offer our visitors a professionally designed self-catering lodge with 4 bedrooms and accommodation for 10 people. Meals can be included on request. For your entertainment, we offer game tours, fishing, bird watching, hiking and mountain biking on our farm roads of the 1800 hectare property.
ABOUT MAKGORO LODGE
In 1945 Gawie and Baba Bothma settled on the farm Kgoro.
The farm became economically viable through crop farming and commercial cattle farming.
Gawie Bothma started a Bonsmara stud.
He was one of the first founding members to breed pure Bonsmara cattle.
In 1950 he built a dam wall to collect the run-off rain water.It was registered for the irrigation of 20ha of land.
This dam was registered as the Kgoro Dam.
In 1980 Emil Bothma carried on farming at Kgoro with crop farming and commercial cattle.
In 1985 he started farming more intensively with cattle, and started a feedlot, namely Koodoolake Voerkraal Trust.
In 1985 Emil married Marena.
They had three children, namely Bea, Heinrich and Philip.
In 1986 Makgoro Lodge was built on the banks of the Kgoro Dam.
The game farm initially consisted of 600 ha of camel thorn trees and Kalahari savannah grasslands.
Since then the game farm has expanded to 1 800 ha of beautiful Kalahari bush veld and grasslands.
In 2017 Heinrich joined the farming business.
So far, 3 generations of Bothma’s have been established in the heart of the Molopo on the farm Kgoro.
Currently the enterprise is being run as an intensive and commercial cattle farm with Makgoro Lodge as a game reserve.
The Lodge
Makgoro Lodge is an 1800 hectare privately owned game farm situated in the North West province, between the towns of Vryburg and Mahikeng.
The self-catering lodge have a state of the art kitchen, dining, barbecue, and bar facilities. A swimming pool, surrounded by lush rolling lawn, overlooks an extensive natural dam. The lodge has four private bedrooms and sleeps a total of 10 guests.
The lodge is fully serviced and has on-site staff to assist with all cleaning. Meals can be prepared on request at an additional cost.
The lodge is rented as a complete unit to ensure your privacy and our undivided and personal service.

We also have our own private landing-strip that allow the landing of lite planes. The landing-strip is 1,6km long, 60 meters wide, gravel with no landing lights. (GPS: 26°13'10.4"S 24°56'50.9"E)
