Where Wildlife, Conservation & Unforgettable Experiences Meet
About Lion and Cheetah Sanctuary
Welcome to Lion and Cheetah Sanctuary, a unique wildlife sanctuary where animals that cannot return to the wild are given a safe, peaceful and loving forever home.
Located just 30 minutes from Pretoria and approximately one hour from Johannesburg, the sanctuary borders the Dinokeng Game Reserve, home to Africa’s famous Big Five.
Set within an 800-hectare conservancy of beautiful, unspoilt bushveld, the sanctuary provides an extraordinary opportunity to experience wildlife, nature and conservation in one unforgettable destination.
Our sanctuary is currently home to lions, cheetahs, hyenas, servals, antelopes and horses, all cared for with dedication and compassion.

Our Conservation Mission
We believe every animal deserves the opportunity to live a safe and meaningful life.
Lion and Cheetah Sanctuary was established as a safe haven for animals that are not suited for release back into the wild. Our goal is to provide these animals with the best possible care, enrichment and environment throughout their lives.
We are also passionate about conservation, rehabilitation and species protection.
Our future plans include establishing release programmes where suitable animals can be rehabilitated and released into reserves around South Africa, helping support the survival of certain species while preventing unwanted interbreeding.
Meet Our Animals
Guests can experience a variety of fascinating wildlife at the sanctuary, including:
- Lions
- Cheetahs
- Hyenas
- Servals
- Antelopes
- Horses
- Giraffes
- Wildebeest
- Zebra

Various other wildlife species
The surrounding conservancy is also home to hundreds of bird species, making the area a wonderful destination for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.
Educational Game Drives
Discover the sanctuary on an educational game drive led by passionate and knowledgeable nature guides.
Our guides share their intimate knowledge of the animals, their behaviour, conservation and the importance of protecting wildlife.
Guests have the opportunity to see the different species housed at the sanctuary and, on afternoon tours, watch the feeding of the big predators from the safety of the game-viewing vehicle.
Visitors can also enjoy the swimming pool and picnic area before or after their tour.
Bookings are essential.

Volunteer Programme

Get Hands-On With Conservation
For those passionate about animals, nature and conservation, our volunteer programme offers a truly hands-on experience.
Volunteers become part of daily sanctuary life and assist with activities such as:
Feeding the animals
Cleaning and maintaining enclosures
Preparing meat and meals
Exercising animals
Monitoring animal behaviour
Checking fences
Bird watching and feeding
Grooming and caring for horses
Building and maintaining new enclosures
Volunteers also learn about conservation, rehabilitation, animal enrichment and the importance of providing suitable care for animals that cannot be released.
Every animal has its own personality, likes and dislikes, and volunteers have the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the individual animals in their care.

More Than Just Volunteering
The volunteer experience is also an opportunity to discover South Africa.
Volunteers can explore surrounding attractions and destinations, including Dinokeng Game Reserve, Kruger National Park, Pilanesberg, Pretoria, Gold Reef City and the Apartheid Museum.
After a busy day, volunteers and staff can relax around the braai, enjoy the swimming pool, or sit beneath the stars listening to the sounds of the African bush.
