We warmly invite you to unwind at a charming Karoo homestead, established in 1834. This tranquil farm is owned by the fifth generation of the le Roux family, descendants of the French Huguenots. Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and the distractions of television at this serene retreat. Relax on the thatched veranda stoep, taking in views of the majestic Swartberge and Badsberge.

Adventure Awaits

Once you feel revitalized, embark on a hike through the fynbos koppies, the succulent Karoo plant veld, or the renosterbosveld. If you're seeking an exhilarating experience, take your 4X4 and tackle one of two off-road trails. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, which can often be spotted in the early morning or at dusk.

After a day filled with adventure, gather around a fire to prepare a leisurely dinner. As you gaze into the flames, let the echoes of voices from the past wash over you. When night falls, pour yourself another glass of wine and marvel at the sparkling blanket of stars that adorns the dark sky. You may even be fortunate enough to hear the distant call of a jackal as you settle in for the night.

A Birdwatcher's Paradise

Rise early the next morning for a birdwatching excursion—don’t forget to bring your binoculars and bird books! The Little Karoo region boasts an array of magnificent bird species.

As you trek for 45 minutes through fynbos, trees, and rocky terrain, you will discover a stunning waterfall. This refreshing mountain spring serves as an oasis, rejuvenating both body and spirit, while the rich diversity of flora and fauna will delight nature enthusiasts.

Your Rustic Retreat

Kleindoorn Guest House is a rustic self-catering establishment located on a working farm, where you are welcome to observe and participate in authentic farm activities. The owner, Bertus le Roux, has deep roots in this land, having been born and raised on this soil.

Accommodation

Welcome to Your Spacious Retreat

Step into a charming space with lofty ceilings that leads you to a stoep, a library, and three inviting living areas. Two of the bedrooms feature comfortable double beds, while the third is equipped with twin beds. Additionally, three divans and a sleeper couch can serve as extra sleeping options. You’ll find extra towels and linens conveniently stored in the bedroom cupboards. The house accommodates up to ten guests, and extra mattresses can be arranged for children.

To make your stay hassle-free, we provide cutlery, crockery, and other essential kitchen items, including a microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge-freezer, an electric frying pan, and a mini oven with two hot plates. For those chilly evenings, an indoor barbecue area creates a cozy ambiance throughout the house.

Outdoor barbecue facilities are also available in front of and beside the house, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the sunset, the blue mountains, and the surrounding farm—ideally accompanied by a glass of wine to celebrate the beauty of nature.

We are literally a stone’s throw from the 142 km2 Boosmansbos Wilderness area and the farm is surrounded by some of the finest Little Karoo scenery. There are  plenty  to discover, enjoy and do around the guest house. Here  is a list of some activities for your inspiration:

DIRECTIONS

Kleindoorn Guesthouse is situated on a working farm, 12 km off the popular tourist Route 62, 28 km north-east of Barrydale and 72 km south-west of Ladismith. Its proximity to Oudtshoorn (170 km), Cape Town (270 km) and Swellendam (75 km) makes it an ideal weekend getaway destination.

There are two ways to reach us.  One is to turn off from Route 62 (between Barrydale and Ladismith) and the other is via Route 323 between Riversdale and Ladismith.

RATES

We can accommodate up to ten people: six in three rooms (two double rooms and one twin bedroom), two on divans, and two more on sleeper couches in living areas. Extra mattresses are available upon request.
