Our Favourite Activities

Scuba Diving

The warm waters of the Mozambican coastline are perfect for scuba diving!

You’ll get the chance to see an amazing variety of sea life — from turtles and colourful reef fish to bigger game fish and the majestic Manta Rays.

Best of all, there are two highly recommended dive centres just a short beach walk from the villa, ready to help you explore the underwater world.

Deep Sea Fishing

If fishing is more your thing, you’re in for a treat! Experience top-notch deep sea fishing with one of the local highly experienced charters. Game fish are caught all year round — including yellowfin tuna, wahoo, king and queen mackerel, sailfish and dorado.

For the serious fishermen, the prime season for black marlin is between October and June and blue marlin from December to June.

Whether you’re after a fun day out or the ultimate catch, there’s something for everyone!

Snorkeling

One of the absolute must-do activities in Mozambique is diving — but if you’re after a fun family-friendly alternative, snorkelling is just as magical! The Mozambican coastline is a snorkelling paradise, so don’t forget to pack your mask and flippers.

We’ve found that the best snorkelling spot in the area is at Paindane, about a 15-minute drive from the villa. The underwater life there is simply breathtaking — it’s well worth the trip!

Sea Safari

For a truly unforgettable experience, head out on a sea safari to explore the nearby reefs and the warm Indian Ocean — you might even find yourself swimming alongside the resident dolphins! Keep your eyes peeled for tropical fish, turtles, and if you’re lucky, the elusive whale sharks.

Between June and October, you can watch majestic Humpback whales right from the deck while enjoying your morning coffee. In May, they’re heading north to their breeding grounds, and from September, they make their way south to the nutrient-rich waters of Antarctica.  Guinjata Bay is one of the breeding grounds for these whales, so it’s not uncommon to see mother and calf playing together in the bay in the breeding season– a truly special sight!

Canoeing & Kayaking

Hop into a canoe or kayak and explore the beautiful ocean right on your doorstep. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a wave alongside the local bottlenose dolphins that often visit the area. With such a wide stretch of coastline, there’s no better way to take it all in!  You can easily hire a canoe or kayak from the nearby sea charter companies.

For the avid fisherman, the kayaks are also perfect for a bit of light tackle fishing — just trawl a line behind the backline and see what bites!

Surfing

Mozambique is fast becoming a favourite destination for surfers chasing warm waters and great swells. The best time to enjoy uncrowded surf is between February and October, with the biggest swells rolling in around June and August.

The warm Indian Ocean is the perfect playground for one of the most exhilarating water sports around — kite surfing! The north-east wind, which blows steadily from July to November, rarely disappoints and creates ideal conditions.

Get your adrenaline pumping in the waves right in front of the villa, or head to the calmer, flat waters of the ay for a more relaxed session. Just remember to bring your own gear, as equipment rentals aren’t available nearby.

Visiting us in December? That’s the perfect time for the little ones to have fun in the waves — gentler conditions make it ideal for beginner surfers and playful beach days!

Pansy Island

Enjoy a truly authentic Mozambican experience with a visit to Pansy Island — a magical spot that only appears at low tide! The island is named after the beautiful and delicate Pansy shells that can be found scattered across its shores.

Hop on a traditional dhow with the locals to reach the island, and spend time exploring the beaches, searching for Pansy shells, and discovering the crystal-clear waters filled with micro marine life and starfish colonies.

Don’t forget to pack your snorkeling gear — you won’t want to miss what’s beneath the surface!

Biking

At low tide, the beach transforms into the perfect track for a relaxing ride along the water’s edge — especially with fat bikes. With endless kilometres of untouched beach right on your doorstep, you can explore for hours without seeing another soul.

While there aren’t any local companies renting out bikes just yet, if you have a fat bike, it’s well worth bringing it along for the adventure!

Dhow Trips

Support the locals and enjoy a leisurely sundowner dhow trip, departing from Inhambane. It’s a wonderfully peaceful way to experience the ocean — just the sound of the wind in the sails, the gentle waves, and the sun on your face.

There’s nothing quite like watching the vibrant red African sun sink below the horizon, all while sipping on your favourite drink. Pure magic!

Kite Surfing

The warm Indian Ocean offers the ideal playground for one the most exhilarating water sports on earth. The north east wind that prevails between July and November each year seldom disappoints. Get your adrenaline pumping in the waves directly in front of the villa or enjoy the calmer flat water of Guinjata Bay (own equipment required).

Beach & Rock Pool Fishing

With your fishing rod in hand and a bit of luck, you can fish straight from the beach right in front of the villa. Don’t be shy to chat with the friendly locals passing by — they’re often happy to share a few fishing tips and tricks that have been handed down through generations.

On calmer days, take a stroll to the rock pool area in the bay, where you can fish from the natural rocky outcrops that jut into the water. It’s a peaceful way to spend the day, with the sound of the ocean as your backdrop.

RELAX

Indulge in Local Flavors

Take a well-earned break from cooking and treat yourself to a taste of Mozambique! We’ve discovered some fantastic local spots near the villa, as well as in Inhambane — just 30 km away — where you can enjoy delicious meals packed with local flavour and fresh seafood. You can also explore nearby towns and villages, where charming restaurants and eateries serve up authentic local dishes. It’s a wonderful way to experience Mozambican culture while supporting local operators and artisans — contributing to the community’s economic growth and cultural heritage.

If you don’t feel like cooking or heading out, we can also arrange for a local chef to prepare a meal for you — perfect for those lazy nights when you just want to relax and unwind.
