Introducing your new favourite Bush location at the beautiful Hluhluwe Bush Camp.

iSimangaliso Wetland Park is South Africa’s largest and first natural World Heritage site. It stretches from the St. Lucia Estuary in the South up to the border of Mozambique and is also known as the Elephant Coast. It protects 220 km of pristine coastline with a range of wild and magnificent beaches to enjoy.

Hluhluwe Bush Camp overlooks the treasure trove that is False Bay Park in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. The Camp offers 5 enticingly luxurious self-catering glamping tents, 2 fully equipped Adventure tents with private outside bathrooms, 3 fully equipped Tipi tents, a must-see bohemian-style caravan, known as Poppy, and 2 small intimate campsites in the bush with electricity, a braai and an ablution block. And now, we introduce Umfomothi House – a stunning self-catering house very close to Hluhluwe Bush Camp.

Enjoy tranquility whilst sitting on the deck viewing our neighbours – Nyala, Reedbuck, Duikers and pineapple fields.

Besides the glamping tents, Hluhluwe Bush Camp has a reception area with a Farmstall and a pool with sun loungers all overlooking False Bay Park.

The Farmstall is the number one shop for fresh, homemade produce like filled sandwiches, Dutch crispy fries with mayo, pineapple juice, coffee/cappuccino, mint, ginger and lemongrass tea, homemade soup, lettuce and vegetables, breakfast and BBQ packages as well as all your basic needs products like salt, pepper, toilet paper, BBQ wood, firelighters, matches, wine, beer, water and ice cream. LUXURY TENTS

Camping, for some people, conjures up images of trudging to the shower block in the dark, or heating a can of beans over an open fire. Our Luxury Lodge will make them think again. It has all the comforts of home and comes with its kitchen and bathroom, or two. Welcome to…

GLAMPING

Estrela

Estrela, meaning “star” in Portuguese – a shimmering word connection to our other home in Mozambique, yet rooted in our South African sky above. Having spent so many nights under the spectacular stars in our area, we decided they need to be framed by an equally beautiful structure so that we could share this nighttime tapestry with our guests.

Estrela is an open-sided stargazing tent which looks onto a scenic field. No need to cook here – our rates for Estrela include breakfast and dinner but you have a small fridge and tea & coffee station for that first cuppa to take in the sunrise. There is also a braai stand in which you can light what we call a “kuier vuur” in South Africa – direct translation: “visit fire” – where you’d like to sit and visit for hours while you sip on a glass of wine and take in the sounds of the surrounding bush life. For now, you will share the glamping ablution block with shower, toilet, basin and dishwashing facilities.
We’re putting one or two finishing touches on Estrela, but she is ready to book and enhance your star-struck experience at Hluhluwe Bush Camp!

Its simple design belies the luxury within, with room for proper beds in separated bedrooms, and a stylish bathroom with a large, unique shower, basin and toilet, well-equipped kitchen and dining area. All rooms have fans for those hotter nights and a spacious veranda, where you can enjoy the great outdoors overlooking our private game area, a quiet moment with a book or a coffee, completes the look. Step off your deck and sit around the table next to your private braai (BBQ) area and add that quintessential fire-food aroma to your bush experience. It’s perfect for couples, a family holiday, or a breakaway with friends.

We offer five luxurious tents which can each accommodate up to five persons.
One tent can even accommodate up to six persons, and all have a private parking space.

Tipi Tents

A splendid addition to the Hluhluwe Bush Camp glamping family: The Tipi Tents!

These Native American inspired tents are both comfortable and spiritual. The Tipi tents are very comfortable and can fit two persons (2 large single beds or a double). The second tent is our Boutique Tipi – perfect for 3 people, with the 3rd bed a mattress on the floor. They are fully equipped, which means they come with electricity, a large braai area, an outside table, four chairs, laundry rack, equipped camp kitchen including a fridge, towels, linen, fan and so on.

The spectacular view of the grazing animals and borders of False Bay park make these tents very unique. The tents combine luxury with a real outdoor experience. During your stay in a Tipi Tent, you can use the funky ablution block for and have private parking at your site.

Adventure Tents

The Adventure Tent is versatile – it’s the tent for people who don’t normally “do” camping, but also for those that do. It’s for the real adventurers who could use a little bit of extra comfort. It’s also suitable if you need extra accommodation for large groups.
The tents are fully equipped with electricity, a small fridge, gas cooker, pots, pans, towels, sheets and their own outside bathroom with toilet. It’s a more luxurious way of camping.
The Adventure Tent has two comfortable beds which can also be converted into one big bed, and a terrace with a view over the bush with your own parking spot right at your site.
For the extra outdoor experience, we have an ablution block with sanitary facilities.
Both our Adventure Tents have their own BBQ – this way there is no excuse to skip the famous South African Braai

Poppy

This is how we roll! Meet…Poppy. A caravan given a new lease on life at Hluhluwe Bush Camp, with a gorgeous bohemian-hippie theme. Poppy has a fridge and stove in the kitchen, with 2 small double beds with fans on either side of the interior. Stepping outside, you look out over the bush from your shaded deck and can enjoy the sunset while you braai at your private BBQ area. Hippie life equals happy life!

Campsite

In the middle of our bush, we have hidden campsites for real adventurers.
This is perfect for people who travel with rooftop tents, overlanders or any avid camper – accessible by any type of car.

Every site has its own braai place, so no need to put your meat on a gas stove. Wake up with the sunrise, surrounded by Nyalas and other bush animals. There is a central electricity switchbox, an ablution block with shower, toilet, basin and dishwashing facilities.
Here you will have the real African Experience!

ACTIVITIES

Just a 5-minute drive from the Camp is the entrance to False Bay Park – one of the many entrances to iSimangaliso Wetland Park. With its beautiful lake and marked walking and mountain bike trails in one of the few sandy coastal forests left, False Bay Park is like a forgotten jewel.

Just a 25-minute drive from the Camp, visitors will be spoiled with a true bush experience in the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park – the oldest proclaimed nature reserve in Africa. A wild, hilly park, known for its rich wildlife and incredible rhino conservation efforts, one can easily spend a day driving through the park and still want to go back for more. Known for its well-protected white rhino population, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi offers visitors the chance to view these threatened residents in one of only 4 countries in which they reside; those being South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Black rhino are also under strong guard and these efforts make these the largest populations of white and black rhino in the world.

An hour away from Hluhluwe Bush Camp, one enters the famous Sodwana Bay in iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Celebrated for both its underwater diversity and beautiful forested coastal lands and lakes, Sodwana boasts 50km of growing coral reefs which thousands of divers from around the world visit annually. Also a very popular angling destination, deep-sea and shore fishing deal up treasures like billfish, yellowfin tuna and dorado. Walk for miles along expansive beaches fringed with forested dunes, or go snorkeling off Jesser Point.

With so much to do and see, we’ve rounded up the highlights which are must-dos:

  • Rhino Trails mounting biking – with several tracks inside and outside False Bay Park it is indeed a memorable experience to ride alongside the animals of the park and encounter beautiful single tracks. For more information www.rhinomtbtrails.co.za
  • False Bay Park marked walks – 60 million years ago, this stretch of land was covered by the sea. Discover both rare, living wildlife and ancient fossils as you can take walks between 4-7km long for young and old along the shore and in the Sand Forest. The marked Mpophomeni Trail is 6.5 km long or, with an extra loop, 9.5 km long. Mpophomeni means “waterfall” in Zulu. The trail is colour coded and has clear markers which identify and describe points of interest. There are a number of giant trees in the sand forest. Or try the marked Ingwe trail (Ingwe means “leopard” in Zulu) and the Dukandlovu trail.

Hluhluwe Bush Camp is set in the heart of Zululand, famous for its wetlands, wildlife, pineapples and Zulu culture.
The popular attractions in the area are the national game reserves False Bay iSimangaliso Park – a World Heritage site,  Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Reserve and Mkuze Game Reserve.

The stunning white beaches of Sodwana Bay and St Lucia are only a one hour drive from the Camp.

Hluhluwe Bush Camp is ideally situated with so many attractions nearby. It offers both beach and bush, and all within a 1-hour drive. For the sporty types among us, there are a lot of beautiful hiking and cycling trails in the area.
