Francolin Creek is a tranquil oasis halfway between Heilbron and Frankfort in the Northern Free State that blends true South African history with modern comfort.

A family-owned and managed farm retreat, Francolin Creek is rated four stars by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa in the Country House category.

A total of 26 overnight guests can be accommodated in the main lodge, which boasts a magnificent 13-unit portfolio.

In addition, our new bush lodge comprises four luxury chalets (sleeping up to 10 guests), allowing you to immerse yourself in the African wilderness.

Several bird species roam in abundance on the farm, including the Francolin… the inspiration for the lodges name.

Guests can enjoy the magic of a Free State thunderstorm while enjoying a traditional farm-style home-cooked meal.

Dotted with millions of bright stars, the night sky is the only roof to the vast and rolling grasslands, stocked with the plains game and the magic of Africa in its most potent form!

As a four-star lodge, Francolin Creek offers all the luxurious ingredients of a great weekend retreat, with an inviting hint of traditional South African hospitality.

If all rooms are occupied, and guests are sharing, Francolin Creek can comfortably sleep 36 guests. Icy winter nights are made warm, charming and romantic as every room has adequate heating facilities.

The rooms are all serviced daily.

Enjoy fully catered delicious, traditional farm cuisine when you book in at the Main Lodge; alternatively, the option of self-catering is available when you retreat to the Bush Lodge.

The lodge offers a cosy wine cellar, Cattleman’s bar, two lounge areas with a roaring fireplace and a full function venue for the bigger parties.

As Francolin Creek is a lodge on a vast Free State farm, it goes without saying that the views and surroundings are breath-taking and magnificent.

The lodge has been proven as an ideal retreat for groups of friends or families looking for a special breakaway to spend quality time together in an intimate setting, while still offering individual privacy in the comfortable, fully appointed rooms.

Francolin Creek has the full facilities and expert ability to cater for a range of function requirements for up to 90 guests.

We welcome all weddings, birthday celebrations and any other function you might require.

We also offer conferencing facilities, perfect for a staff team-building stay-over, and for the entertaining of clients for up to 60 people per day.

Ceremony


The tranquil, lakeside, thatched venue located next to the large willow trees has water flowing on both side of the structure and creates the most peaceful and romantic setting for the exchanging of vows.
While the bride and groom take photos, guests can take a walk up the rolling lawn towards the reception venue where canapés and sundowners can be enjoyed with the rolling grasslands and beautiful lake as the backdrop.

Reception venue


The beautiful reception hall at Francolin Creek is ideal for a wedding with up to 90 guests and offers the following facilities:

  • Ten wooden rectangular tables seating 10 each. Other size tables are available in the event of more than 100 guests
  • Chairs with white chair covers
  • White table cloths and serviettes
  • Stainless steel cutlery, white crockery, salt and pepper sellers
  • Wine, champaign and water glasses along with glass jugs
  • Choice of two types of vases
  • All equipment required for the preparation and serving of the meal
  • Two cool rooms
  • Cattleman’s bar and lounge
  • All other items must be hired at the clients’ own expense.

The Francolin Creek management team will organise and do the catering themselves, and we will help you choose a menu that will best suite your style and budget.

Bar & Alcohol


Full bar facilities are available – and you can choose whether to run an open or a cash bar service.
A large variety of wines and sparkling wines are available for purchase.
