A Historic Home with a Story
Built in 1933, Far Niente has been lovingly cared for through generations of the Van Schalkwijk family. The charming thatched-roof home has survived floods, storms, tidal waves and landslides, while remaining a much-loved gathering place for family, friends and travellers.
The name “Far Niente” means “without a care” — perfectly capturing the relaxed feeling of sitting on the verandah, listening to the waves and simply enjoying the moment.
Today, the house combines its historic character with modern comforts, while preserving the warm atmosphere of a traditional family beach home.
Comfortable Sea-Facing Accommodation
Far Niente offers three self-catering accommodation options, making it suitable for couples, families and groups.
The units can be booked separately, combined, or the entire house can accommodate up to 10 adults. An additional 2 dorm-style beds are available in the living areas, suitable for smaller children, allowing up to 12 guests in total.
