 Dorpshuis Guest House

De Aar is the second most important railway junction in South Africa.

The lines from the Eastern Cape and Western Cape, the Northern Provinces, Zimbabwe and Namibia meet here.

The town has 110 km of track and a high traffic rate of trains every day.

The guest house has five spacious rooms that can be thoroughly enjoyed.

One of the most regular comments in our guest book is about the cleanliness.

All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, bar fridges, electrical blankets, ceiling fans and TVs .

The beds have quality mattresses and bedding, and all rooms have their own private bathrooms, of which three are en-suite and three have showers.

Dorpshuis features include a 99% UV shade cloth car port and in our lovely garden there is a braai area.

Tea, coffee, cooldrinks and fruit juice are available.

If you are interested in rock art, excellent examples of Khoisan rock engravings can be viewed on the farms Nooitgedacht, Brandfontein and Damfontein.

Take a leisurely stroll through The Garden of Remembrance which honors the British soldiers killed during the South African Anglo-Boer War.

Also worth a visit is the Olive Schreiner - the famous South African author and feminist who wrote "Women and Labour".

She lived in De Aar and her house in Grundlingh has been converted into a museum and restaurant.
